F.A.Qs
- “What do I wear to class?” Something comfortable like yoga pants a tank top or sports bra if comfortable.
- “How long will it take me to get good?” We always leave that up to the students' to determine, only
because students' reasons for taking classes differ. Just like any sport the more you practice the faster you'll improve, most important you should be having fun and relaxing while you come to class and practice at home.
- “Is it an expensive hobby?” Yes, it can be an expensive hobby. It's a beautiful hobby but again, just as any
hobby it can become expensive with all the beautiful costuming, jewelry, shows and props.
- "How do I sign up for your classes?" All you need to do is show up for class at the time that best suits your
schedule and we'll sign you up then. Our classes are on-going so you may start at any time.
- "How can I get you to teach my group of girls to dance for my quinceanera?" If you are wanting to
perform a belly dance piece for a quinceanera, sweet 16, wedding or any other occasion, please allow plenty of time to learn the basic movement required to ensure a great outcome for your special occasion especially for large groups. (from our experience in group presentations you need to consider scheduling and cost as a group to ensure that everyone can make the practices just as any planned performance for a celebration).
- "How can I arrange to have you perform for a fund raising event?" We are always honored to be part of
a fund raising event, we simply ask that you notify us with enough time to schedule you in our calendars.
- "How can we be informed on where you will be performing?" You can always catch us at Kosmos, our
local venue (1623 19th St.) once a month (every last Friday of the month). We will soon be posting a calendar our site with up coming performances, you can always e-mail or call us for any information.
- "What level do I start at?" We offer only beginning belly dance classes, even though our classes are a
mixture from beginning through intermediate levels. We do have a performance class that is offered to those students whom wish to take belly dancing a step further into performing and possibly at a competitive level.
- "Do you offer private lessons?" Yes, we do offer private lessons for individual or group settings.
- "If I want to perform, what do I do?" Even if you have taken previous belly dancing instruction, remember
that every instructor has his/her own preference when it comes to individuals performing in a troupe. We require that you take the time to study our style of dance, music selection and level of commitment we require before deciding if this is right for you. If you are looking to perform as a guest at our local venue, we ask that you join us the Wednesday prior to our show and give us direction on how you would like to be introduced and how to go about your performance. We like to remind all guest performers that we are a family oriented entertainment and ask that you bring costuming to the rehearsal prior to the show. (Due to prior experiences, we ask that you do not take any offense in asking that we preview your performance prior to the show and we appreciate your understanding).
- "How long will it take for me to see physical results?" As in question # 3, the more you practice at home
the faster the results. Just as in any form of exercise or training. We recommend to stretch fully before starting any practice to help with flexibility and to alway maintain proper posture to avoid any injuries or straining.
- "Do I have to start at the beginning of the month?" No, our classes are ongoing meaning that you may
start at anytime of the month or year. Sign up before or right after class.
- "Where can I buy a hip scarves and costumes and do I need them for class?" If you are just starting,
(unless you want to) I would recommend purchasing a hip scarf in which we have a selection at the studio along with some basic accessories. For costuming we have a seamstress that puts together a unique costume for our troupe and we teach our students in the performing troupe how to put together a costume (we put together at least one costume a year). You may also go online for a wide selection of pre-made costumes.
